stuart brocklehurst

medium - print

yorkshire based printmaker stuart brocklehurst’s linocuts are inspired by the landscape and wildlife of the natural environment. however, whilst these are recurring themes in his work he doesn’t consider himself to be either a landscape or a wildlife artist. being happy to tackle any subject he feels will make an interesting or challenging print.

printmaking forms the mainstay of his work and he describes its appeal as being like a puzzle. for all the planning and working that is done beforehand, there is no certainty about the outcome of the finished images until with the strange alchemy of art gradually appears through the mists of the previous colours.

influenced by japanese woodblock artists, particularly hiroshi yoshida, and by the clarity and simplicity of 20th century travel posters. his work is all hand printed using a japanese baren, there is no mechanical press involved.
