mark believes “it’s all about noticing things, the better you are at noticing the better you will be at making engaging pictures”
he spends most of his time noticing the world around him on the west cumbrian coast in the lake district. from his home in ravenglass where the mountains almost reach the shore and three rivers form a perfect estuary, there is a huge variety of landscape to notice.
for mark, making pictures is an attempt to share the excitement of a light effect, a composition or a colour combination.
he chooses to make pictures with pastels, oils, and mixed media and very often by printing. he enjoys the discipline of multi colour prints, the process forces him to think precisely about the nature of what he sees and how to put that across to the viewer.
