jean carabine

medium - paint

at the heart of jean’s practice is an interest in working in the space of uncertainty and not knowing. this has led to a variety of foci – including human experience, the body, memory, and landscape, as well as different ways of working, such as painting, drawing, print and performance. rather than starting with a fully worked out idea, Jean seeks instead to allow the painting, print or drawing to ‘come into being’ over time. this means working with, and responding to, what emerges in the moment and to what has gone before. it is a process that entails multiple layering of glazes and fine traces of pigment, as well as over painting and working wet in wet.

since graduating in fine art at leeds metropolitan university in 2009, where jean was awarded the spectrum paints painting prize, she has exhibited, presented and performed both in the uk and internationally.
