anthony ratcliffe

medium - print

the work of the artist has always been connected with british landscape and is a result of travelling extensively around scotland, wales, england and ireland. this exploration includes research into natural history, archeology, geography and literature associated with the same landscape.
the artist is particularly interested in the remnants of past land usage found in remote areas of our coastline and moorlands, these may be found in the form of prehistoric stones, lead mining equipment and spoil heaps or abandoned ruins and wreckage.

the work is produced from sketchbook drawings which are made into woodcut prints using two blocks and a reduction printing process. all the prints are cut and hand printed in small editions by the artist.

the artist’s studio overlooks the pennine hills of the dark peak national park and a lot of recent work has evolved from detailed exploration and drawings of this local landscape and the pennine watershed further north in yorkshire.

the artist has work in many public and private collections including the british council, houses of parliament and manchester airport plc.
